Background

Nearly 25 million victims are currently trapped in modern day slavery. That’s right. Today. It’s an immense problem, one that not enough people are talking about. And unfortunately, one that not enough people are doing enough to address. Worthwhile Wear is doing something about it. The company was created to empower survivors of human trafficking. Through classes, steady employment, and a safe space to call their own, these brave women aren’t just given the support they deserve, but the incredible gift of hope. One of Worthwhile Wear’s biggest annual fundraising events is the ACT Challenge. From May 1st to July 30th, participants are asked to track their miles, whether walking, running, biking, swimming or kayaking and for each mile, ACT sponsors will make a donation. The goal of 30,000 miles by this date will go a long way to providing that precious hope to those who have experienced so much to move forward in their lives.

The Challenge

Even after breaking free of traffickers, survivors often have trouble breaking free of the cycle of substance abuse. Worthwhile Wear offers a number of supportive services to help these deserving survivors, including The Well, which is a recovery and housing program and the Worth It program, which gives these women the tools they need to further their education. Worthwhile Wear turned to heavy to help promote these different programs across their social platforms, while still maintaining a unified look and voice under a single brand umbrella. They also enlisted our help to bring more awareness to their ACT Challenge, an impactful fundraising event that their team puts on each year that provides safe housing and restoration programming for those who are breaking free of the cycle.

Rationale

Hope is a powerful thing. It is the promise that moves us through the darkest of days and reminds us of the light ahead. Worthwhile Wear isn’t just purveyors of preloved items and lightly worn wear, but of hope itself. Providing community, security, and opportunity for these women who have been through the unimaginable, and reminding them that just an inkling of a better tomorrow can sometimes be just enough to pull through today, and the day next until they’re back to a life intact.

The Approach

In order to help Worthwhile Wear take charge of their social channels and create ongoing content with a unified look, we created a template that correlated more closely with their branding that they could continue to use down the line. These revamped graphics work as a system, individually depicting the unique benefits of each Worthwhile entity but all living under a single unified brand umbrella. We also revamped their ACT Challenge website to take a more data-driven approach showcasing volunteer participation through numbers logged and money raised, while also clarifying the challenge’s logistical details.

Results

With heavy’s help, Worthwhile Wear is taking a more polished, branded approach to their social channels, a look that also continues on through their ACT Challenge landing page. The landing page now really shines a light on donor and volunteer participation, giving clearer directions, which will allow future participants to join the cause more easily. With a final count of 31,091 miles, the 2021 ACT Challenge surpassed its original goal of 30,000 when it came to a close on July 30. We’re proud of the work that the Worthwhile Wear team has done and are excited to watch where the ACT Challenge heads in years to come!
