The Background

Family tradition is at the core of Brackett’s Farm, a 515-acre working farm located in Louisa County, Virginia. The property sits within the Green Springs National Historic Landmark District—and is protected by the National Park Service. Home to herds of angus and tarentaise cattle, historic buildings and structures, and a 12-acre private lake, Brackett’s is a scenic destination amidst the Virginia countryside. Operated and maintained by the Elisabeth Aiken Nolting and Bracketts Farm Charitable Foundations, the farm engages in sustainable stewardship while working to educate the public on its environmental and agricultural impact, as well as the farm’s robust 200-year history.

The approach

We were introduced to Brackett’s Farm by our friends at UVA, while in town working on an accompanying production. Out of sheer kindness, Brackett’s Farm invited heavy to use their remarkable property as a location for UVA’s For All Virginia campaign. As short snippets of early morning farm life were captured for the production, heavy also set sights on creating a more comprehensive reel specifically for Brackett’s. Showcasing the work of the farm’s dedicated stewards, the film that emerged was used by the farm for outreach, fundraising, and web or social media content.
